A track made across the country following a simple tweet, Wasted Hearts is a delightfully dreamy collaboration between Perth’s Wulfe and Sydney’s Tru.

The piece is a new direction for both artists, Tru moving away from Sara Tamim’s old acoustic styling, and Wulfe embracing vocalists more prominently than ever before. The track stitches together well, with the washed out vocals laying between the instrumentals. The effect can be hard to embrace at first, but creates a stunning cloud like texture after a few listens.

The track feels a bit too distant vocally to be a true pop piece, but rather plays into a sparkly form of electronic driven material. The instrumentals soar around the vocal work to generate that sense of movement. It’s a testimony to the modern realm of music making that something so beautiful can be made without the artists ever meeting face to face. The piece is easy to listen to, but holds depth in production and layering, ensuring that there is something to come back to with every listen.
