Mellow yet searing with emotion, Vylet’s debut single Why cuts you to the core. It’s open honesty acting as the key to your heart.

The track is never intrusive, simple keys, plain lyrics, it is structured in such a way that it draws you in through the way it lingers just out of reach. Stripped back stylising isn’t something that is overly new in the realm of emotional pop, but the way in which Vylet manages it expresses a mastery of the genre as well as providing a hint of something fresh.

The true highlight of the piece is Vylet’s lyrical abilities, soaring above the delicate run of keys that ripple over the listener, she provides a focal point for you. Her voice provides a magnet to your attention – it can be compared to an architectural focal point when you are on a train. While the song rushes around you, her soft lyrics stay constant. The lyrical content is safe, a telling of heartbreak and romance, but it creates an approachable situation that brilliantly avoids the clichés.

Why is a stunning piece by Vylet, and clearly shows why we should be paying more attention to her. The only why that it leaves us wondering, is why she hasn’t released more like this.
